So I'm reading "Following the Drinking Gourd" with my kids for our Read Aloud. I'm teaching them everything they need to know about the slave trade, Underground Railroad, etc.
Eduardo: Can I make a text to self connection?
Me: Of course!
Eduardo: It's almost like you're the master and we're the slaves. We have to do everything you say!
Me: Uhm.. no, not exactly. I can't sell you to Ms. Hamiliton for $5, can I?
Michelle: Well, you did get rid of Joshua for a day. Did you sell him to Ms. Hamiliton?!?
Joshua: NO! Don't sell me to her! PLEASE! (Literally cowers in a corner with his hands over his eyes.)
